Volcker Controversy: Natwar offers to step down

Beleaguered Union Minister K Natwar Singh, in the thick of controversy over the Volcker Report, on Monday night offered to resign, Congress spokesman Anand Sharma said.

Sharma said Natwar Singh spoke to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is in Moscow on a visit, over phone and conveyed to him that he would hand over his resignation on his return from Russia.

After talking to the prime minister, Natwar Singh drove to 10 Janpath and met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to inform her of what he conveyed to Manmohan Singh, Sharma said.

Natwar Singh also told the prime minister that he was going to meet Sonia, Sharma added.
