The district magistrate and superindent of police of Siwan district have requested the Bihar home secretary on Monday to announce a countrywide alert for the arrest of controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal member of Parliament, Mohammad Shahabuddin. This is according to sources in the state Home Department.

DM Santosh Kumar Mall and SP Sanjay Singh have written to the home secretary since Shahabuddin has been absconding despite arrest warrants issued against him, sources said.

A second team of Bihar police is in Delhi to arrest Shahabuddin and handover arrest warrants to Delhi police. The first team, which was in Delhi last Friday, returned unsuccessfully.

A local TV channel in Patna reported that Shahabuddin was in Mumbai on Saturday and Sunday. Earlier he was said to have been in Nainital, after leaving Delhi.
