19 confirmed cases of cholera in Maha

In the aftermath of heavy rains and flooding in Maharashtra, 19 confirmed cases of cholera have been reported across the state, while Mumbai alone has 352 hepatitis, 30 leptospirosis and 10 dengue patients, state health officials said on Wednesday.

A total 11,684 cases of diarrhoea and gastroenteritis were reported (excluding Mumbai) till Tuesday, the officials said. Only two cases of suspected cholera were reported in Sion Hospital in Mumbai and the samples had been sent for confirmation to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation health department, dean of the hospital Yeolekar told PTI.

Nine cases of cholera had been reported from Pune, eight from Nanded and one each from Parbhani and Beed, officials said. In 15 districts, cases of diarrhoea/gastroenteritis have been reported which include Raigad (31), Ratnagiri (649), Thane (3919), Sangli (562), Kolhapur (1908), Sindhudurg (4), Pune (727), Solapur (195), Satara (229), Beed (62), Nanded (983), Parbhani (1997), Jalna (120), Yavatmal (197) and Ahmednagar (101).

Nasik, Amravati, Akola and Ingoli had not registered any cases of diarrhoea or gastroenteritis, officials added.
