United Liberation Front of Asom militants on Sunday exploded a bomb on an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation oil pipeline in Assam's Sibsagar district in stepped up violence before Independence Day.
The bomb exploded on the pipeline at Panbishe in the Sibsagar police station area of the district causing extensive damage and oil spill over an area of 2 kilometres, police said in Sibsagar.
Senior police and civil officials have reached the spot and an extensive combing operation is on in the area.
Police said the blast was caused by a China-made bomb and that three people had been picked up for interrogation so far.

ONGC sources said the supply of oil through the pipeline was immediately switched off and repair work was on. Oil supply is expected to be restored by five PM on Sunday.
ULFA militants have intensified violence in the state in the run-up to the Independence Day, ambushing CRPF and police vehicles in Tinsukia district on August two, killing one and injuring five others.
