Shaniwarwada Fort -- the seat of power of the Maratha empire -- has suffered some damage in the heavy rains lashing the city for the past few days, Archeological Survey of India sources said.
A portion of the fort wall called 'brudge', which is about six feet in length, collapsed last evening following the incessant rains, ASI caretaker R S Waster told PTI in Pune on Monday.
The collapsed brudge, which was circular, was located in the southern portion of the historic monument, he said adding, only the top portion fell off but there is no damage to its foundation.
As some sections of the collapsed brudge (wall) is intact above the ground, there would not be much problem in carrying out the repairs, he added.
"However, so far, the ASI has not done any assessment about the damage. The repair work would begin soon," Waster added.
The over 300-year-old Shaniwarwada has been declared as a protected monument by the ASI and scores of tourists visit the monument every year.
