Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday reasserted that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav will not be asked to quit.

The Opposition has been demanding Lalu's resignation following the Sabarmati Express accident last week and the framing of charge sheet against him in a fodder scam case.

National Democratic Alliance leaders will meet President APJ Abdul Kalam today to demand Lalu's dismissal.

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has written to Bharatiya Janata Party president Lal Kishenchand Advani and asked him to reconsider the decision.

Chatterjee said it wasn't healthy for the finance bill and the budget to be passed without the Opposition.

Dr Singh expressed the same concern on Wednesday.
