Buta Singh hints at extension of President's rule

Bihar Governor Buta Singh on Tuesday accused political parties of resorting to horse-trading and playing the communal card in their effort to form a government in the state and hinted at extension of the President's rule.

He also came down heavily on the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal government, saying "the [previous] administration did not run by any system. It was not run as per the Constitution or rules. The government was being run by whims and fancies."

The governor said though there isn't a popular government in the state, there is a Constitutional structure of governance in place.

He said he did not see a popular government being formed in Bihar

in the near future. "So the President's rule will complete its tenure and may be extended," he said.

On the attempts being made by various political parties to form a government, the governor said he had received reports of horse trading.

Asked about the difference in ground situation in the state between now and when the state was under RJD rule, he said: "Earlier the situation was bad. Now the situation is all right and developmental works are being undertaken. I don't want to say it but people want this government to last for a long time so that Bihar could be put back on track."
