Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday said his talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh marked a "historic day" in bilateral relations.

"The talks went off exceptionally well," he said. "We have reached an agreement on a way forward. We have decided that confidence-building measures as well as all disputes, including the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir, need to be addressed and move forward towards the solution in a purposeful manner," he told CNN after his meeting with Singh.

On the joint statement issued after the talks, he said, "I think it covers the aspirations of both sides equally."

Asked about the possibility of Pakistan sending troops to Iraq, he said, "Invitation has to come from the people of Iraq and government of Iraq."

"We have to create an environment (domestically) for Pakistan to send troops," he said, suggesting that more Muslim countries should contribute forces to Iraq. "We cannot be in a lead role."
