The Republican Party of India led by Ramdas Athawale on Monday said it has decided to part ways with Congress-NCP alliance and contest the October 13 Maharashtra assembly polls on its own.

"The Congress-NCP has insulted us by avoiding seat sharing talks and offering only a few seats out of those demanded," Ramdas Athawale told reporters in Mumbai.

The RPI leader and Member of Parliament said his faction has decided to contest 100 seats independently.

RPI(A) is an ally in Congress-led Democratic Front government in the state and also in the UPA government at the Centre.

Though the party is going all alone in the assembly polls, it would continue its support to the UPA government, Athawale said.

"The decision of parting ways with Congress-NCP is only at the state level and alliance would continue at the Centre," Athawale clarified.
