Communist Party of India-Marxist veteran Jyoti Basu on Friday said his party was not satisfied with the functioning of the United Progressive Alliance government.

Emerging from a meeting of the state secretariat of the party in Kolkata, he said the government should be 'self-critical'.

He was particularly critical of the involvement of World Bank officials in formulating policies, pointing out that it has been established that in the past the Bank had given wrong advice in crucial matters.

The meeting, attended by a number of CPI-M politburo members from West Bengal, discussed the concerns of the party on the policies of the UPA government. Basu would be travelling to Delhi with other party leaders to take these up with the government.

Basu's comments come only a couple of days after the four Left parties, who are supporting UPA government from outside, criticised the government for the inclusion of World Bank and Asian Development Bank representatives in the Planning Commission's consultative committees.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, however, has already defended the move.
