The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday announced withdrawal of its agitation at Bangalore following a Hubli court's order to the Karnataka government to withdraw the case against former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti.

However, the party's September 8 rally would be held as announced earlier but will now be a 'victory rally', BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters in Chennai.

Naidu said the court judgment was a 'great slap' to the Karnataka government and the Congress party.

He said there is no proposal to reinstated Bharti as chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. However, the party's office bearers would discuss this issue on September 8.

The BJP had launched what it described as a 'week-long satyagraha' on September 1, seeking Uma Bharti's release.
