All the shells were kept in three jute bags and one plastic bag, Juneja said adding the explosives must have been thrown into the pond by someone dealing in scrap.

The villagers of Bemta noticed the bags after the water in the pond started receding and informed the Simga police who subsequently fished out the bags.

Experts from the National Security Guard and Jabalpur Ordnance Factory have arrived in Raipur to destroy the recovered explosive materials.

The Chhattisgarh government had on October 13 handed over the case of explosives recovery to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
