Cong-NCP promises Rs 1,500 cr for Mumbai

The Congress-Nationalist Congress Party combine on Friday promised a Rs 1,500 crore special package for Mumbai, free power to farmers and insurance for crops in its manifesto for the October 13 assembly polls in Maharashtra.

The issue of development of Vidarbha also figured in the manifesto, with the alliance promising a special package every year to cover the development backlog of the region.

Rehabilitation
of sick cotton mills and factories and a commission for water conservation also found mention in the manifesto released by All India Congress Committee general secretary Margaret Alva, Maharshtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prabha Rau, Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, NCP leader Praful Patel and RPI leader Ramdas Athavale.

The manifesto also spoke about the implementation of the recommendations of the Sri Krishna Commission, which probed the the 1993 Mumbai riots.
