For the third day on Sunday, police continued questioning Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi, who was arrested on November 11 in connection with the murder of a temple official.

The seer "is not in any angry or uncooperative mood", but is mostly replying in the negative. He slept most of the time since he seemed to be exhausted, the police said.

Superintendent of Police, Kanchi, Davidson and ADSP Sakthivel are interrogating him.

Meanwhile, R Sankaran, spokesman of the Kanchi mutt, said a legal team is deliberating on the future course of action of moving the Supreme Court.

Asked why the junior pontiff, Vijayendra Saraswathi, has not yet met the Shankaracharya, he said steps are being taken in this regard. "I cannot reveal everything."

Meanwhile, advertisements have appeared in leading newspapers giving details of the welfare activities carried out by the mutt, the Shankaracharya's 'hard work and sacrifice' in the service of the common man for the past 50 years.

Probably referring to the arrest, another advertisement said, 'There are dark clouds in the horizon, which, like all other clouds, will disappear one day.'

Asked whether the advertisements will continue, Sankaran said that the public is merely being informed of the good work done by the mutt.

He also said that over 15,000 signatories have sent emails, campaigning for justice and expressing grief over the arrest.
