I will not change direction: Uma

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti has no regrets about being suspended from the Bharatiya Janata Party for walking out of a party meeting on Wednesday.

She said on Thursday that she would not change her "direction".

"I tried to find out the element of indiscipline in yesterday's action, but I could not get any," she said in a letter to party president Lal Kishenchand Advani, which she also released to journalists.

"Whatever had to happen has happened. It was perhaps beyond our control… A daughter was thrown out of house on the day of Dhanteras."

Bharti said she was not concerned if her actions had benefited or hurt the party, which had been built by the workers.

"I cannot harm the party nor do I intend to," she said, adding she had performed her own 'pind daan' (last rites) at Amarkantak on the banks of the Narmada river when she took sanyas in childhood.
