72 per cent pass CBSE Class X exams

The Central Board of Secondary Examination on Friday declared Class X examination results with the pass percentage registering an increase of over four per cent at 72.22.

As many as 72.22 per cent of over 5.6 lakh students who had taken the Secondary School Examination (Class X) passed as compared to last year's figure of 68.02 per cent.

Girls fared better than boys and their pass percentage was 73.28 per cent as compared to 71.46 per cent in the case of boys.

The Chennai region, covering southern states, was ahead of others in Class X results with a success rate of 89.56 per cent. Chennai region was ahead vis-a-vis Class XII results also, declared on Wednesday, with a pass percentage of over 90 per cent.

For regular students, the pass percentage was 76.62 per cent against 28.71 per cent for those who appeared as private candidates in Class X examination.

Students in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nager Haveli (all in Ajmer region), Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman and Diu and Lakshwadeep (all in Chennai region) got the individual score from 6 am on Wednesday. 

For the rest of the country, including Delhi, the students had to wait till eight this morning to know their results, which were available on CBSE websites www.cbse.nic.in, www.cbseresults.nic.in and www.results.nic.in.
