Highlights of the UPA's CMP

The Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) promised a series of laws, including one for one-third reservations for women in assemblies and the Lok Sabha.
The highlights:
- Bill for one-third reservations for women in assemblies and Lok Sabha
- Bill to repeal Prevention of Terrorism Act
- Bill on domestic violence and against gender discrimination
- Bill to give women equal rights of ownership of assets like houses and land
- Immediate introduction of Bill on National Employment Guarantee Act to guarantee minimum 100 days of employment at minimum wages for one person from poor families
- A model comprehensive Bill to deal with communal violence and encourage each state to adopt that law to generate faith and confidence in minority community
- Amend the Constitution to establish a Commission for Minority Educational Institutions that will provide direct affiliation for minority professional institutions to central universities
- Respect Article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir
- Amend labour laws to protect workers against 'hire and fire' policy.
