Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the acharya (chancellor) of Viswa Bharati University, who has expressed concern at the theft of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel Prize medal, memorabilia and heirlooms, will come on a daylong visit to Santiniketan on April 2.

Vajpayee will visit the museum into which burglars broke into at Rabindra Bhawan, Vice-Chancellor Sujit Basu said in Kolkata.

He said he would also have a meeting with the PM.

Vajpayee will be put up at Uttarayan, which was Tagore's residence.

Meanwhile, a Central Bureau of Investigation team will reach Santiniketan on March 31 to take over investigations into the theft.

The Crime Investigation Department has failed to achieve any breakthrough in the case even after five days.

An officer of the rank of inspector general will head the CBI team, CID Additional Director-General R K Mohanty said.
