Kalam to visit Siachen in April

President A P J Abdul Kalam, the supreme commander of the Indian armed forces, will visit Siachen glacier, the world's highest battleground, in the first week of April.

The Army Headquarters in New Delhi is in touch with Rashtrapati Bhavan to finalise the dates for the visit, the President's press secretary, S M Khan, told rediff.com

This will be the first visit by a President to Siachen.

Defence Minister George Fernandes has set a record of sorts by visiting the glacier several times.
