BSF officer killed in J&K blast

A Border Security Force officer was killed and eleven, including four members of the paramilitary force, critically wounded in an explosion in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday afternoon.

Militants hurled a grenade at a BSF vehicle in Sopore's main market, a BSF spokesperson told rediff.com

"Five BSF troopers were wounded in the explosion. They were taken to a hospital where B B Yadav, assistant commandant, 112 Battalion, succumbed," T Acharya, the spokesperson, said.

Seven injured civilians were taken to Sopore sub-district hospital.

BSF troops reached the spot immediately and the area was cordoned off.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
