The Central Bureau of Investigation, which was under the prime minister's charge during the National Democratic Alliance government, has been brought back under the control of the Departnment of Personnel and Training, official sources said today.
A notification to this effect has been issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, they said.
During A B Vajpayee's prime ministership, the investigating agency had been moved to the Prime Minister's Office as it was then probing politically sensitive cases like the Babri Masjid demolition.
The decision to bring back the CBI under the DOPT was made through an executive order, the sources added.
