Former Australian captain and chief selector Allan Border on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Communist Party of India-Marxist headquarters in Delhi and met politbureau member Sitaram Yechuri.
Border, who is in India to work out the details of Australia's tour in November, was all praise for the democratic values in the country, Yechuri told PTI.
"Border said that it was a great triumph of democracy (in India), the way transfer of power has taken place peacefully through elections," he said.
The world's highest Test run scorer, who was born in a coal miner's family and is involved in efforts to restart closed mines in his country, also praised the Communist movement in India.
"The world over, there has been a lot of discussion on the emergence of the Left and Communist movement in India," Border said during his 30-minute visit.
