Rickshaw puller's daughter to join medical college

Vaishali Ramesh Wankhede, a rickshaw puller's daughter, who had cleared the All-India Pre-Medical Test against all odds, has been admitted to the Government Medical College in Nagpur.

 

GMC sources confirmed her name in the selected list of students, which was announced all over the state today. "I am extremely happy to learn that I would be pursuing my medical education in the city where I am born and brought up," said Vaishali, who had scored 85.5 per cent marks her entrance test.

 

Vaishali had scored 73 per cent marks in SSC and 81 per cent in HSC

from the Dharampeth Tarkunde Junior College in Nagpur.

 

Her father, Ramesh, had given up pulling a rickshaw due to failing health while her mother Maya works as a domestic help.

 

City Police Commissioner D Shivanandan had recently felicitated her and presented her a purse of Rs 10,000 to honour her meritorious performance.
