The hideout was busted on Wednesday during search operations at Chakri forest in the Mandi-Loran area of Poonch district, a defence spokesman said in Jammu adding a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives was recovered.

The cache included 36 rounds of AK ammunition with poison heads. The forces also recovered two AK rifles with two magazines and 2,730 rounds, one 9mm pistol with one magazine, four anti-tank rifle grenades, 20 hand grenades, 28 electric detonators, 20 metres of cordex wire, 29 Improvised Explosive Devices, one radio set, rations and incriminating documents.

The troops smashed the hideout and continued to search other parts of the area.

A group of heavily armed militants opened fire indiscriminately at the police station in Mendhar area of the border district killing a policeman and a civilian and injuring two cops. A heavy exchange of fire between the two sides was on when reports last came in.
