Six students who were going on a picnic, and three security personnel were injured when terrorists lobbed a grenade and opened indiscriminate firing at an army convoy heading to Budgam this morning, at Tengpora bypass in Srinagar, official sources said.

As the grenade exploded, the terrorists followed it up with indiscriminate firing, causing injuries to three jawans, the sources said. The security forces also retaliated, though it was not immediately known if any terrorist was injured.

Six students of Mirgund high school who were going on a picnic along with their schoolmates, were injured in the exchange of fire between the two sides, the sources said.

The injured students have been admitted to hospitals in Sringar while the jawans have been shifted to the Badami Bagh army hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the terrorists.

No terrorist outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
