BMC Asst Commissioner held for links with Dawood

The police on Tuesday arrested three officers of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on the charge of helping underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's gang in illegally developing shopping plazas in Mumbai.

The three officers, including Assistant Commissioner Kiran Acharekar, have been arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and would be produced before special judge A P Bhangale, police said. They allegedly helped Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood' brother, channel ill-gotten money into real estate.

They are also charged with forcibly evicting a woman from her house to help illegally develop Sara Shopping Centre and Sahara Shopping Complex in south Mumbai.

Iqbal is already in judicial custody in this case. The other accused in custody are Abdul Rehman, Satar Teli, Tanwar and Narendra Rajbhar.
