The Border Security Force on Sunday said it has foiled militants' plan to step up violence during the coming parliamentary polls in Jammu and Kashmir with the seizure of nearly 650 kgs of explosives and 11,000 rounds of assorted ammunition from two hideouts in Srinagar.

Acting on a specific input, troops raided a hideout near ferry point in Parimpora and recovered 50 kgs of high explosive and 11000 rounds of AK ammunition kept in gunny bags in an abandoned house, a BSF spokesman told PTI.

He said the consignment was probably coming from Gauripor side and meant for Hizbul Mujahideen outfit to escalate violence during the parliamentary polls.

In a separate raid last night, security forces arrested a shopkeeper Noor Mohammad Gujri in Maharajgun area of downtown city on Saturday night and recovered five quintals and 90 kgs of low-quality explosives from his shop, the spokesman said.

He said Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Lal Bazar area of the city, who is at large, used to buy explosives from Noor and distribute it to the militant outfits to carry  out subversive activities.

A hunt has been launched to nab Shafi, he added.
