The government has formulated a plan to make special arrangements to ensure safe and timely movement of flights during fog, Lok Sabha was informed on Thursday.
"The Ministry of Civil Aviation has reviewed fog preparedness for the winter with representatives of all concerned agencies," minister of state for aviation Praful Patel said.
A coordination committee shall monitor the start up clearances to manage and prioritise the movement of flights during fog, he said.
To another query, he said the Airports Authority of India had decided to modernise 25 non-metro airports to international standards in phases.
The AAI will appoint Indian Financial Consultant and Global Technical Advisor to undertake a techno-economic feasibility study of airports to evolve an appropriate model for the project.
To another query, he said a proposal had been received to link West Bengal with China, Japan and the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
There was also a proposal to start a flight from Kolkata to Singapore and Hong Kong.
Air India also had plans to link Kolkata with Bangkok and Singapore, he said.
