The Andhra Pradesh police on Thursday sought the help of their Tamil Nadu counterparts to arrest Usha, whose name has been linked with Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati, in connection with a bank cheating case in Srikalahasti, about 40 km from Tirupati.
The
Shankaracharya is currently under arrest in connection with a murder case.
Srikalahasti Rural Circle Inspector B Srinivasan said Usha and her husband R L Narayanan took a loan of Rs 30 lakh from the State Bank of India's Srikalahasti branch in 1997 for setting up a cement brick factory.
The bank in 2001 lodged a complaint with the local police alleging that Usha and her husband were not repaying the loan.
Narayanan was arrested and later let off on bail. Usha, however, remained elusive, though a non-bailable warrant was issued by a Srikalahasti court on November 30 last year against her.
"We will send our police team to arrest Usha only after getting a green signal from the Tamil Nadu police," Srinivasan said.
