Heavy rains: Five drown in Mumbai

Bodies of two youths were fished out from a reservoir in Kharghar node of Navi Mumbai this afternoon, taking the toll of people drowned in past 24 hours to five.

Earlier in the morning, police recovered bodies of three persons near Mahim creek, who are also feared drowned.

Two students of Acharya College, Chembur, namely Sanjay Gupta and Nityanand Khillare, had gone to Pandavkada lake in Kharghar for picnic yesterday and did not return home, police said.

Taloja police launched a search for them and succeeded in fishing out Gupta's body this afternoon, police added.

Nityanand Khillare, however, continues to be missing, they said. Search for Nityanand Khillare is on, sources informed.

Meanwhile, during the search operation, police also recovered body of an unidentified youth from the lake, police sources said. The unidentified body and Gupta's body have been sent to Panvel Rural Hospital for autopsy.

Earlier this morning, police recovered three bodies from the Mahim creek, suspected to be of drug addicts. The three unidentified bodies have been sent to J J Hospital for autopsy, police added.
