Dhananjoy Chatterjee, sentenced to death for raping and murdering a 14-year-old girl in Kolkata in 1990, is likely to move the Supreme Court in appeal once again.
Just hours after news came in that Chatterjee's
clemency plea has been rejected by President A P J Abdul Kalam, the convict's lawyer, Sekhar Basu, said he will move a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 32
of the Constitution.
Article 32 deals with the right to move the Supreme Court for enforcement of a fundamental right.
"Notwithstanding the Presidential decision, there has been inordinate delay in the matter and as such Dhananjoy Chatterjee deserves commutation of his sentence," Basu told
PTI.
