No warrant in my name: KCR

Union minister K Chandrashekhar Rao denied that a magistrate has issued a non-bailable warrant in his name.

Speaking to mediapersons at his residence in Delhi on Wednesday, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief said, "Magistrate M Gandhi contemplated issuing a non-bailable warrant against me for non-appearance in connection with a case. But my advocates requested for recall of the order. The magistrate would give his verdict on Thursday."

He told the reporters that he could not attend the court on Wednesday as he was busy in Delhi. He blamed the media for overplaying the news and trying to malign him. "Some channels are carrying the news without asking for my side of the story," he charged.

He plans to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to explain his position. "I have sought appointments with both and will see them as soon as I hear from them," he said.

N Prahlad, an advocate and former secretary general of the TRS, had filed a case against Rao under Sections 420 and 109 accusing him of taking money from party workers and supporters promising them tickets to contest the Lok Sabha or assembly elections.

"The party decided to take Rs 10,000 (Lok Sabha) and Rs 5,000 (assembly) along with the application forms for party tickets. Owing to the tie up with the Congress party, not all of them could be given tickets to contest the elections. Of these, some have been refunded their money and the process is still on. We have moved the high court to quash the case," Rao explained.
