The Congress Party on Saturday demanded the Central Bureau of Investigation file an appeal against the verdict of  Rae Bareli Special Court in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

The court had discharged Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.

The party also wanted Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to accept the resignation of Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi.

Party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy said the discharge of Advani was a 'clear and massive example of sabotage' by the CBI, as the prosecuting agency 'conspired to get the prime conspirator liberated in the case'.

He said the refusal to accept the resignation of Joshi would amount to a 'political farce'.

Attacking Vajpayee, Reddy said, "While Advani is the main culprit in the case relating to the Babri Masjid demolition, the prime minister turned out to be the culprit in the process that sought to demolish the case."
