Fake stamp paper scam: 2 AP cops shifted

Two police officers, who investigated the fake stamp-paper scam involving Abdul Kareem Telgi in 1999, were transferred to the control room.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner M V Krishna Rao transferred Vijender Reddy, the inspector who investigated the fake stamp paper case, and his then deputy A Ahmed Khan. They were in charge of the Begum Bazar police station when Telgi, the main accused in the scam, was arrested in the city.

Reddy was moved to the City Crimes Records Bureau and Khan to the West Zone Police Control Room, according to an official release on Friday.

Meanwhile, in a memorandum submitted to Andhra Pradesh Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, nine left parties, lead by the CPI and CPI-M, demanded a judicial probe into the multi-crore scandal.
