The bandh called by 'Dara Sena' in Mayurbhanj on Tuesday to protest conviction of Dara Singh and others in Graham Staines murder case had no impact in the district.

Shops and business establishments remained open and traffic was normal while government offices, educational institutions and banks in the district functioned as usual, officials said.

No untoward incident had been reported in the district nor was any activist of Dara Sena, an organisation set up by supporters of Dara Singh, sighted anywhere, district SP Y B Khurania said.

Security had been tightened in three police station areas in the Karanjia sub-division of the district where Dara was active before the Manoharpur carnage and for about an year after the incident till he was nabbed by the police.

The three police stations are Karanjia, Thakurmunda and Mahuldiha.

Security had been provided to churches and to the residence of Gladys Staines, the widow of the missionary, who has decided to live in India and continue the work of her husband among leprosy-afflicted people.

Police sources said that the security would continue till the trial court awarded sentence to the 13 persons convicted in the case on September 22 next.
