Martyr's body brought home to Kochi

Touching scenes were witnessed as the coffin containing the body of Major Milton V Kurien, who was killed when militants attacked the army camp in Kupawara district of Jammu and Kashmir on September 13, was brought to Kochi on Tuesday from Delhi.

Milton's wife Mercy, their son Achal, his mother Baby Kurian and aged grandfather George Kurian and other relatives received the body.

State Tourism Minister K V Thomas laid a wreath on behalf of the government and Ernakulam district collector Gynaneshkumar on behalf of Chief Minister A K Antony.

After a guard of honour by the defence personnel, the body was taken to the Ashokapuram church in Aluva for burial.

The late officer's father, who is no more, and grandfather were Junior Commissioned Officers in the army.

Militants had stormed the camp of the Fifth Sikh Regiment situated in thick forests at Nildori-Pungus valley in Nowgam sector killing Milton and three jawans.
