Congress spokesman Jaipal Reddy on Friday demanded that the Narendra Modi government be dismissed in the light of the Supreme Court strictures against it in the Best Bakery case.

"Prime Minister [Atal Bihari] Vajpayee should follow his rajdharma and impose president's rule in the state. Though Vajpayee is himself an RSS man, when he is following rajdharma he must rise above his party affiliations," Reddy told newsmen

in New Delhi.

He said the SC's observations are a resounding confirmation of the grave charges levelled by human rights organisations and the National Human Rights Commission about deliberate subversion and perversion of the rule of law by the rulers in Gujarat.

"These observations are unprecedented in the annals of independent India. Something drastic, therefore, needs to be done...," he said.

Reddy claimed the Supreme Court has vindicated the Congress' stand in Gujarat riots cases.
