The family of comatose commando Surjan Singh Bhandari, injured during the Akshardham temple attack on September 24, 2002, has urged Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to incur expenses for his treatment even after the National Security Guard shifts him to Delhi.

Bhandari, a Kirti Chakra recipient, is still 'critical and on life support system' at the ICCU in Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital. The NSG now wants to take him to Delhi.

His brother Uttam Singh Bhandari said he had faxed a letter to Modi. "Surjan was injured while defending people of Gujarat and we request the chief minister to approve incurring his expenses even when Surjan is in Delhi," he said.

He said he had thanked the Gujarat government for its support in treating the commando.
