Fake stamp papers circulated by Abdul Karim Telgi will be legalised through an ordinance, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh said after inaugurating the 19th India Economic Summit, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and World Economic Forum, in New Delhi on Sunday.

"The case will be handed over to the CBI tomorrow," Singh said.

The minister said the decision was taken after consultation with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his deputy Lal Kishenchand Advani.

Singh said the government was also considering a process to completely do away with stamp papers.

"But it will take some time. We are serious about it," Singh said.
