Heavy Pakistani shelling in Chanigund, Kargil sector, led to the migration of civilians, while 19 houses and a mosque were destroyed at Mawar Gurez in north Kashmir on Saturday.

Police sources in Srinagar said Pakistani troops rained shells on Chanigund village in the morning, resulting in injuries to a civilian.

The shelling led to the migration of 76 families, including women and children, as panic gripped the area. "They have fled to safer places as the shelling is continuing in the area," a police officer said. He said five homes were destroyed in the shelling.

The Indian Army retaliated, he said.

A report from Gurez, Baramulla district, said many homes and a mosque were destroyed in shelling.

The sources said artillery targeted the village since Friday night.

However, no one was injured. The Indian Army returned fire.
