The Indian Army on Friday arrested a Pakistani militant suspected to be part of the suicide squad that was holed up in the BSNL building in the high-security Badamibagh Cantonment area in Srinagar.

The two holed up militants were killed after a 48-hour standoff that claimed four civilian lives. Authorities had suspected the involvement of another militant, who they believed escaped.

Identified as Iqbal of Pakistan, the militant was captured in an injured condition, an army spokesman told PTI.

He said a jawan noticed some suspicious movement around the besieged Indira Nagar locality. "When the militant tried to come near the post, the soldier fired injuring him. However, the ultra managed to escape," the spokesman said.

The troops monitored his movement and captured him in a marshy land in Indira Nagar area later, the spokesman added. One AK rifle and four grenades were found from the arrested militant.

The militant is being interrogated but his group affiliation was not known, the spokesman said. He said the captured militant would be handed over to the local police on Saturday.
