The Delhi police on Wednesday arrested two teenaged cheats who were allegedly inspired by the prime accused in the multicrore fake stamp papers scam Abdul Karim Telgi.

Eighteen-year-old Vineet Gautam, who has just finished schooling, and 19-year-old Ajeet Singh, a Class XII student, have been nabbed on charges of preparing forged bank drafts and trying to cheat a shopkeeper, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West District) Sanjay Singh said.

Inspired by Telgi, unemployed Gautam had devised a plan to conduct shopping on the basis of fake documents, he said. He then roped in Ajeet to execute his plan.

Gautam allegedly bought a bank draft for Rs 50 from Punjab National Bank, Singh said.

The two then went to a computer centre in Sahibabad, adjoining Delhi, to approach a computer expert Deepak, he said.

They then allegedly prepared fake rubber stamps of PNB and with its help and forging signatures of the bank manager made a fake draft for Rs 210,000, he said.

The duo placed an order for some electronic goods with the shop and presented the fake draft to the owner, Singh said.

The shopkeeper, however, suspected the fraud and reported to police following which they were nabbed. Deepak is absconding.
