CBI probing Telgi scam in 3 states: P C Sharma

The Central Bureau of Investigation is probing the multi-crore stamp paper racket in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Delhi.

Its probe is directed at determining the role of the staff in the Nashik-based India Security Press in helping prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi.

"We had begun our investigation in early 2003," CBI director P C Sharma said in Mumbai on Friday.

The CBI's involvement follows a request by the respective state governments as also the Union government, which operates the India Security Press.

In Gujarat, the CBI has recovered fake stamp papers worth Rs 8-9 crore.

The CBI chief was on a two-day visit to Maharashtra during which he inaugurated a housing colony for CBI staff in Nagpur on Thursday.

His interacted with the media in Mumbai followed a request by Joint Director (Western Zone) D Sivanandan.
