Normal life in Tripura was affected on Thursday due to the dawn-to-dusk bandh [general strike] called by the ruling Left Front and opposition Congress-Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura, official sources in capital Agartala said.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed and flow of vehicles on roads was also thin in the early hours of the day, they said.
No untoward incident was reported from any part of the state during the bandh, called in protest of Wednesday's militant attacks in different parts of the state killing 33 non-tribals.
Meanwhile, in the Lok Sabha, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) voiced serious concern over the killings and demanded that additional para-military forces be immediately rushed to the state to deal with the situation.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Member of Parliament Khagen Das said 33 people were killed, 23 injured and several houses torched in one of the most audacious attacks by militants in the state.
He charged that the militants belonging to the banned National Liberation Front and Tripura Tiger Force outfits, armed with AK-47 and other weapons, had unleashed a reign of terror.
Sharing the concern, Lok Janashakthi leader Ram Vilas Paswan said there was need to address the root cause of problems confronting the tribals, and basic difficulties faced by scheduled castes and scheduled tribes should be discussed in the House.
