Militants in Tripura struck again on Wednesday night killing ten people taking the toll since Tuesday night to 33.

According to preliminary reports, suspected militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) raided the Mohurchura Bazar area under Kalyanpur police station in West Tripura district around 2100 IST on Wednesday and fired indiscriminately killing nine persons on the spot.

One person succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital, while two more persons succumbed to their injuries, received in Tuesday's attack, at G B Hospital in the wee hours on Thursday, police said.

It is not yet clear which faction of the NLFT was involved in the Mohurchara incident.

The NLFT has split into two factions of late, one led by Biswa Mohan Debbarma and the other by Nayanbasi Jamatia.

Wednesday night's killing has come even as the state was bracing for a 12-hour Tripura bandh on Thursday called by both the ruling Left Front and the opposition Congress-INPT alliance.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has asked the Centre to deploy more Border Security Force (BSF) battalions along the international border and called upon neighbouring Bangladesh to clamp down on militants taking shelter in that country.

"Unless the porous border is effectively plugged and Bangladesh dismantles the camps of the NLFT and ATTF, killings cannot be stopped," Sarkar said.

The chief minister also called for deployment of the army, but did not specify whether for counter-insurgency operations or for border management.

CPI-M spokesman  Gautam Das said the latest spurt in killings is an attempt by the 'enemies of the Left Front to destabilise our government'.

All those killed in Tuesday's massacre at Simna Bazar, about 500 metres from the Bangladesh border, are believed to be either CPI-M supporters or members.
