Foreign Office spokesman Aziz Ahmad Khan is reportedly among those in the running for the post of Pakistan's high commissioner to New Delhi even as the media is speculating that India proposes to shift S S Menon, its envoy in Beijing (China), to Islamabad.

Acting Indian High Commissioner T C A Raghavan had on Wednesday formally submitted to the Pakistan Foreign Office in Islamabad the agre'ment relating to appointment of the new Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan.

Pakistan is expected to accept the name proposed by India as its new High Commissioner within a week to facilitate full restoration of diplomatic ties between the two countries, nearly 17 months after the top envoy was recalled in the wake of the terrorist attack on Parliament on December 13, 2001.

Dawn newspaper quoted the Foreign Office as saying Menon enjoyed the reputation of a seasoned diplomat and his agre'ment papers would be cleared within a week.

According to media reports in Islamabad, Menon is seen as a thinker, strategist and a tough negotiator, who could keep the fledgling India-Pakistan peace process firmly on course.
