1,400 ultras waiting to crossover into J&K

Nearly 1,400 terrorists of various outfits are waiting in camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to crossover into India, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Harin Pathak said this in a written reply to the Upper House of Parliament.

Replying to another query, he said Pakistan sponsored cross border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has all along been patronised by active involvement of foreign mercenaries. Out of 370 terrorists killed in the state during the current year, 103 were foreign mercenaries.

In addition to diplomatic initiatives at various levels, the government has taken a series of steps to contain cross border terrorism, which includes strengthening of border management, proactive action against terrorists and gearing up intelligence machinery, he said.

Pathak said during the current year till end of March, 86 foreign terrorists were killed in various encounters, out of whom, 83 were Pakistani or PoK nationals.

Minister of State for Home I D Swami, responding to supplementaries during Question Hour, said India has not received any 'positive response' from Pakistan on the list of 20 criminals and terrorists wanted by New Delhi in connection with various crimes

He said while deportation of criminals and terrorists has taken place from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India has not been able to get any criminal deported or extradited from Pakistan so far.

Swami said the Central Bureau Of Investigation (Interpol Wing) has sent red corner notices against 234 wanted criminals and seven countries, including the United States, Germany, Portugal, UAE, United Kingdom and France, responded in 2002 and 2003.
