Two more arrested in Mulund blast case

The Mumbai police on Friday arrested two alleged activists belonging to the banned Students Islamic Movement of India from Kalyan and Padgah villages in Thane district for their involvement in the Mulund bomb blast.

The duo were produced before a special court which remanded them to police custody till May 15. With their arrests, the total number of accused held in this case has gone up to six.

Mohammed Kamil and Farah Abdul Malik were picked up on Thursday night and arrested on Friday under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for their alleged involvement in the blast, which killed 11 persons.

In a related development, co-accused Ghulam Abdul Khotal was further remanded to police custody till May 15. He was arrested from Ratnagiri district of coastal Maharashtra on April 21.

Prime accused Saquib Nachan was arrested on April 10 and booked under POTA. Nachan is the first accused to be arrested in Mulund bomb blast case. Later, two more were arrested. On April 29, the police uncovered his involvement in the Ghatkopar bomb blast case.

According to the police, the same conspirators had masterminded the explosions in Mulund and Ghatkopar and Nachan had allegedly played an active role in the conspiracy. He is in police custody remand till May 12.
