A key witness, in a special court in Mumbai on Thursday, identified the sample voice of film actor Sanjay Dutt in the case of alleged Bollywood nexus with the underworld.

The tape has been forwarded to the forensic laboratory for comparative analysis with another tape containing alleged conversation between Dutt and Pakistan-based gangster Chhota Shakeel.

Dutt's voice had been recorded in the Worli police station in the presence of a witness, who said that on February 4 he had been called to the police station in Worli, for acting as a 'panch'.

Dutt and police officers were present at that time. In his presence, Dutt's voice was recorded in a tape recorder and the audio cassette was then sealed in his presence.

Police intercepted the reported telephonic talk of Sanjay Dutt with Chhota Shakeel on November 14, 2000. Dutt has given a statement to police in this respect and will now be examined as a witness in the court.

The trial in the case of alleged Bollywood nexus with the underworld resumed on Thursday after two weeks following the Mumbai high court verdict on the plea of financier Bharat Shah urging the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act be quashed.
