President A P J Abdul Kalam will on Thursday leave for Jammu and Kashmir on a three-day visit.

On landing in Jammu, he will head for Udhampur to present the President's colours to the Jammu and Kashmir Police in recognition of their over-a-decade-long valiant fight against militancy.

The President will then head for the Vaishnodevi shrine where he will attend a special aarti, official sources said in Jammu.

Later, he will attend a special function of Indian Air Force officers before visitingĀ a migrant camp at Muthi, on the outskirts of Jammu.

Kalam is also scheduled to deliver a convocation lecture at Jammu University.

On Friday, the President will fly to Leh where he is expected to visit a Buddhist monastery before flying to Srinagar to pay obeisance at the Hazratbal shrine, housing the holy relic of Prophet Mohammed.

On Saturday, he will address troops at the forward post of Uri in northern Kashmir.

The President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, would also take this opportunity to meet senior army officials of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

Another event on his schedule in Srinagar is a visit to the Delhi Public School on the outskirts of the city, the sources said.

A multi-tier security ring has been put in place at all the venues the President would be visiting with mock exercises having started from Tuesday.

Several personnel from the Counter-Insurgency Grid have been called upon to provide security during the high-profile visit.

Special care was being taken to ensure safety at the time of landing and take off of Kalam's aircraft, the sources said.
